In principle, WhatsApp and Telegram are very similar, but they have some differences and distinctive features so that, according to your needs, one is better than the other. Telegram vs WhatsApp is the focus of this guide, useful for understanding once and for all which messaging service is more secure between WhatsApp and Telegram, and why. Which of the two has better features and better protects privacy and chats? If you still have doubts whether it is better to use Telegram or WhatsApp, below you will find all the clarifications of the case.
Telegram vs WhatsApp: apps compared
Let's start from the common characteristics: both WhatsApp and Telegram are for free, available for iOS e Android, and present in the PC version respectively with WhatsApp Web or desktop e Telegram Web.
Both are intuitive and easy to use, showing contact lists and chats in use, but also the active sessions on different devices, which you can decide to end with a single click. As for popularity, there is a big difference: if Telegram has 100 million active users, WhatsApp has exceeded one billion worldwide.
Why Telegram is better than WhatsApp
When we hear that Telegram is the perfect messaging app for those who particularly care about theirs privacy it is because it offers the possibility to start secret chats that you self-destruct (you can set a timer ranging from 1 second to 1 week) and block forwarding of messages.
Unlike WhatsApp, Telegram does not have end-to-end encryption by default, so in the event of a hacker attack on the servers, user data and exchanged content will not be safe from prying eyes. In any case, while protected by end-to-end encryption, WhatsApp chats can be spied on using WhatsApp Web or other rather simple methods.
Still with regard to privacy protection, WhatsApp has recently adapted to Telegram, copying the ability to use a fingerprint or a passcode to protect chats. Therefore every time you open the app to enter you have to unlock it with the code or digital (or facial) recognition. But that's not all: after a long time, users on WhatsApp can finally have photos, videos and messages that self-destruct.

A point in favor of Telegram is that, unlike WhatsApp, it does not show thelast access time of a user, but only gives a vague indication like “a few minutes ago”. In fact, remember that on WhatsApp, even if you remove the blue reading ticks, the writing remains Online. You may be interested in Whatsapp, how to reply without being online on Android and iPhone.
Among the pros of Telegram absent on WhatsApp we found, until recently, the possibility of using an avalanche of funny stickers. Zuckerberg's app has now also introduced stickers and, just like on Telegram, you can download new sticker packs to add to your collection.

Why use WhatsApp
Even if Telegram is now increasingly popular, WhatsApp has no competition in terms of diffusion in Italy: it is much easier for your friends and acquaintances to have installed and use WhatsApp on a daily basis rather than Telegram, and this in itself is a good reason to prefer the former at the second.
WhatsApp is not read confirmations (which however can be deactivated), while on Telegram it is not possible to know if a message has been delivered: here the double blue check can indicate both "message read" and "delivered". Conversely, Telegram has a better system for read receipts in group chats, while on WhatsApp these are a bit confusing.
