Short guide also valid for any other legendary Pokémon.
Who is approaching the competitive battling Pokémon or just want to optimize his team for the main campaign, he will surely already know the importance of EVs (Effort Values), IVs (Individual Values) and the Nature of the little monsters that we are going to train.
But, if for "normal" Pokémon the classic method to obtain a specimen with satisfactory characteristics is obviously breeding through a Pokémon pension, how to deal with those Pokémon that cannot reproduce and with legendary Pokémon?
Let's see it together, then, by capturing one Xerneas/Yveltal of the most congenial nature in our opinion.
Capturing Ralts / Abra.
An indispensable element for our mission to be successful without dozens of soft resets is, first of all, to have a Pokémon in the team that possesses the Synchronism ability. Without going to bother previous versions and exchanges with other trainers (however the best alternative if you are lucky enough to find the right pokémon), in Pokémon X and Pokémon Y we could have this ability by capturing in the opening bars a Ralts at path 4 (recommended due to its apparently higher frequency of appearance) or an Abra at path 5.
The Synchronism ability, in addition to having the primary effect of transferring our status problems to the enemy in the course of the battle, allows, if the Pokémon with Synchronism is in first place of the team, to have a 50% chance of meeting Wild Pokémon with the same nature as the synchronizer.
It goes without saying that this translates into the almost certainty of meeting a pokèmon with the right nature and, in our specific case, of capturing a Xerneas / Yveltal with the best characteristics.
Armed with a lot of patience, at this point we have two possibilities:
- raise at the Ralts / Abra boarding house (note that we will not have the chance to capture Ditto until after the encounter with Xerneas / Yveltal) until we have a puppy with the right ability and the right nature;
- arm yourself with dozens of Bis Balls and capture Ralts / Abra until you have a specimen with the right skill and the right nature.
You may be wondering: what is the difference between wasting time catching useless pokémon and soft reset in front of the legendary pokémon? Simply this "useless" work can prove to be profitable when capturing other pokémon that require a different nature and, above all, it saves us from reviewing the cut scenes again and again before and after the capture of Xerneas / Yveltal.
Capturing Xerneas / Yveltal.
Now that we have our Ralts / Abra, we can move on to list some useful points for those who are preparing to capture Xerneas / Yveltal:
- remember to put Ralts / Abra in first place in the team: synchronism is activated only if the pokémon occupies this position;
- do not worry about training the synchronizer: the KO of the same does not affect the success of the method and it will be possible to go and collect the pokémon from the box immediately before starting the cut-scene that leads to the discount with Xerneas / Yveltal;
- catching Xerneas / Iveltal is quite simple: paralyzing the opponent by dropping the HP to just over a quarter is enough to have a good chance of catching with Ultra Ball;
- the nature commonly considered best for Xerneas / Yveltal is the Modest (+ Att. Sp; - Att.): This is because, despite having identical base values for attack and special attack, their most powerful STAB attacks belong to the special attack category .
- to quickly check the nature and IVs of our new pokémon we agree to keep it in the team by sending Ralts / Abra to the box; in this way we can see the characteristics of Xerneas / Yveltal without having to do the same battle over and over again and see the same cut scene.
To facilitate calculations and considerations, here is the table of maximum characteristics (31 IVs) of Xerneas and Yveltal of Modest nature:
from 201 HP
135 Attack
115 Defense
166 Att. Sp.
118 Dif. Sp.
119 speeds
In deciding whether or not to keep the pokémon just captured, it should finally be kept in mind that in the various tests we have never had a Xerneas (but the same goes for Yveltal) with less than 25 IVs per characteristic and with less than 3 characteristics of 31 IVs each. We therefore recommend keeping only specimens that have at least 166 Special Attack and 119 Speed.
