What could be the team of the year?
I TOTY they should be announced in mid-January. Right now we don't know how the event will be structured but it will roughly follow the dynamics of last year, that is EA Sports could entrust a substantial component of the vote to the fanbase, upsetting all the cards on the table. This year there is an important aspect to consider. The last FIFA World Cup, who has already put his hand in the nominations of the Golden Ball, which after a two-year fight, which lasted a decade, will not see Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi among the protagonists.
An epochal fact, which makes us understand how much weight a competition like the World Cup has. To contend for the coveted prize, we find: Varane, Modric and the revelation Mbappè. The announcement of the winner will take place next week.
Coming back to us, it is really difficult to predict which players will be part of the Team of the Year. Much also depends on which of the nominated players are used by the FIFA 19 community. Let's try to tell you our opinion and make a sort of prediction on what could be this year's TOTY.
Let's go in order and above all role by role.
The goalkeeper is one of those difficult roles to reward as no one has been particularly above average. De Gea he has nevertheless shown his skills, especially in his club Manchester United, but has also shown several shortcomings. In our opinion to have that extra gear are, Lloris, fresh winner of the world e Courteous. If the challenge concerned the three goalkeepers mentioned, the vote of the community would be fundamental and certainly, even if Courtois is very often used in combination with Varane and Sergio Ramos, to come out the winner, considering that the Premier League is the most used and most kept championship in consideration by EA Sports, it would still be De Gea.
In our opinion, however, it deserves Courteous that already having a rating of 90, would reach hallucinating statistics. The outsider? Ter Stegen of Barcelona.
As for defense, things are slightly simpler here. Left-back, the inevitable Marcelo, author of a masterful season e winner of the third consecutive Champion's League. His TOTY card, considering his current NIF version, would be devastating, making him the best left-back in the game. There should be alongside him Sergio Ramos. A symbolic player of Real Madrid capable of being ready even in the finalization phase with his deadly head shots. However, there is one factor to consider. If there should be a vote, thanks to the episodes that occurred during the last Champion's League final, in which on two occasions he managed with cunning to hit Karius and Salah, the latter even forced to go out for the shoulder injury, of course not enjoying sympathy in England and especially among the Anglo-Saxon community of FIFA 19, he will not be voted unanimously. However, it seems unlikely that such a player is not part of the TOTY.
The other central defender will definitely be Varane. A player who has grown so much in recent years and is now considered a champion in all respects. He made an important contribution to both France and Real Madrid, in defensive and offensive terms, taking home the World Cup and the Champion's League. His current card, with 87 rating, would skyrocket beyond 94. We think that by the end of the season he will undoubtedly be the strongest central defender in FIFA 19. An important right-back is not easy to find. Valencia, Walker? They are possibilities. However, it is not to be excluded that another central defender may be included in that role, which has already happened in the past, maybe Umtiti?
Let's move on to the midfield. The first choice is certainly that of Modric. Finalist for the 2018 Golden Ball and author of an amazing season, with goals and assists, both with Real Madrid and with Croatia, the latter finalist of the world championship. The stats will be incredible, especially for the offensive stats, much less so for the defensive ones. To take the reins of the midfield in defensive terms there will certainly be Kantè. The revelation player first with Leicester and then with Chelsea, a real column all physical and racing. Definitely flawed in the setting phase but it is a real dam. Attackers are warned. The third midfielder to complete the midfield is not there. Or rather, we don't easily know who to insert. It would be easy to say Kroos, but thanks to the disastrous world championship played by Germany we are almost 100% sure that it will not find space in the Team of the Year. Our choice goes up De Bruyne, one of those players capable of inventing play literally from nothing. He may not be there but the talented Belgian player owned by Manchester City is now an essential player.
We come to the attackers. We are sure there will be big news here. Cristiano Ronaldo, Mbappè, Griezmann, Messi, Suarez, Salah. Among these, we will surely find Mbappe, truly a devastating player, not so much at the club level where he is "accompanied" by a team of phenomena and by a rather low overall level of competitiveness, but in the national team, where he does whatever he wants. World championship won as a protagonist even if in the realization phase he did not shine, scoring only one goal in the final. The other two names? Salah, by posting he is the best player of last year and Cristiano Ronaldo. CR7 has moved from Real Madrid to Juventus, where it is starting to mesh as always. High level performances also in the national team, hat-trick to Spain and 4 goals scored in total during the competition. More to add?
Unfortunately we left it out Lionel Messi. Is it really possible that it will stay out? The odds are high but the last word is not said. We could find him in midfield maybe, instead of KDB. Who knows!
