Part 7: PS Vita and Remote Play
What is Remote Play?
Remote Play will allow users to stream their PS4 games to their PS4 system via WiFi connection, freeing up the TV for other people's use. SCEE expects most PS4 titles to support Remote Play, except those that require a special peripheral such as PlayStation Camera.
Under what conditions will Remote Play work best?
Remote Play will work best when the PS Vita console is connected to the same WiFi network that the PS4 system is connected to. We also recommend that the PS4 system is connected to the local network via an Ethernet cable, that a router suitable for gaming is used, and that the PS Vita is close enough to the WiFi access point so that the connection is free of interference.
Can Remote Play work outside the home network?
We strongly recommend that Remote Play be used on the same WiFi network that the PS4 system is connected to. Remote Play may or may not work in WAN (Wide Area Network). For Remote Play to work over the WAN, a stable and solid WiFi connection and a broadband Internet connection are required; in addition, the local network where the PS4 system is connected must be configured to allow the PS Vita to access the PS4.
How does Remote Play between PS4 and PS Vita improve the current system between PS3 and PS Vita?
Remote Play between PS4 and PS Vita systems leverages Gaikai's proprietary game streaming technology. The PS4 system supports this system-wide technology to reduce the burden for developers. All activities performed in Remote Play, such as purchasing additional content, earning Trophies and saving game progress, will also occur on the PS4 system.
Does the PS4 system have to be turned on to take advantage of Remote Play?
Yes. But PS Vita can wake the PS4 system remotely when it is in standby mode, as long as this feature has been activated from the PS4 Power Settings menu.
Can I use Remote Play via 3G?
No.
How will Cross Play work between PS4 and PS Vita?
As is already the case with PS3, supported titles will allow PS4 and PS Vita users to play the same game together via online multiplayer (PlayStation Plus membership required for online multiplayer).
Are there any other features that allow PS Vita and PS4 users to meet?
Players can take part in voice or text chat between PS4 and PS Vita systems using the “Party” application, even while they are playing. In addition, users can browse and compare each other's Trophies. Text messages can finally be sent / received between PS Vita and PS4 systems.
