Kirby's Blowout Blast Review

A nice pink spin off

Take extra content from a video game, fill it up and sell it as a stand alone game. If it had been any other software house we would be here talking about a "scandal", but if Nintendo is doing it, you can be sure that something good will be able to get us out, or maybe not?

Kirby's Blowout Blast is one of the titles born to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the most famous pink ball on the planet and like its predecessor (Kirby Fighters Deluxe) it is a digital-only game sold at a budget price, only 7 euros, due to its limited contents.

Kirby against everyone

Born from a rib of Kirby Planet Robobot, or the Kirby Challenge 3D game, this umpteenth spin off obviously stars Kirby who, armed only with his lungs of steel, will have to absorb the enemies and spit them out killing all the other opponents in the shortest time possible. By absorbing one or more enemies (the bigger they are, the greater the firepower of our pink ball, a direction indicator will then be activated (as in the Yoshi series) that will allow us to direct our shot. Depending on our ability to complete. the levels, of rather limited duration, about 2 minutes each, we will get medals: bronze, silver, gold and platinum. The only element of difficulty of the game is therefore represented by the completion score of the individual stages.

The points multiplier will in fact vary considerably, first of all based on the time it takes to complete each of the approximately thirty horizontal and vertical scrolling levels, but also collecting bonuses, coins, avoiding damage, but above all trying to make the largest number of carom. of opponents. In fact, by eliminating multiple enemies at the same time, the maximum score will be doubled or tripled, as well as, of course, making the completion of the stage faster. Eliminating more opponents is not always very simple and it will take a minimum of strategy to score the highest score, for example by calculating the right time to shoot out the weedle just sucked, or avoiding absorbing all the enemies at once only to be able to then carambulate like a skilled bowling player.

The level design as usual for all games HAL Laboratories it is very good, favoring the approach with different strategies and providing numerous bonuses also useful to unlock special levels in which you will play with some malus such as half health and stronger enemies. The paintings all have an isometric view in 3D and the camera rotating will also change the scrolling of the game level from horizontal to vertical and vice versa. At the end of each world, then, there is the classic final boss, which we will always have to eliminate with the same technique.

Kirby's Blowout Blast has only one problem it is incredibly short-lived, being enough a couple of hours to complete it and about 4 to be able to score the highest medals. Of course for 7 euros it can be worth it but we would certainly have expected some more elements of the game especially in exchange for completing with the maximum score.

Final comment

Kirby's Blowout Blast is a summer title, which will give you some pleasant hours under the umbrella. It's certainly not the best title starring Kirby and it doesn't even want to be. Its goal is clear, to allow you to have fun with carefree trying to score the highest score and making the most spectacular combos; the budget price in addition to the many bonuses inserted by HAL Laboratory certainly help not to consider the fact that you have taken a minigame and transformed it into a stand alone title so bad. If you love Kirby and 7 euros of credits on the store this is the title to take under the umbrella.
